MUSIC TECHNOLOGY @ Brecknock CLC

We involve children in creative music composition assisted by audio and midi music technology. The children will generate and record sounds which can then be manipulated and controlled, giving children freedom to make decisions about their musical composition. We use an audio editor called ‘Audacity’ and a music sequencing programme called ‘Logic’. Projects work best when they are planned to fit in with things happening elsewhere in the curriculum and are designed to complement instrumental work happening in classes as part of the Wider Opportunities in music programme.

When are the sessions?
Sessions are usually on a Wednesday, but Tuesday and Thursday afternoons are negotiable.
How long are the sessions?
This varies, according to the project. We have done projects lasting a half a day up to projects lasting two and a half days, spread over half a term.
Who are the sessions for?
We can accommodate up to 16 pupils at a time. We have worked mainly with years 5 and 6, although we have also run sessions with pupils in years 3 and 4.
What do the sessions involve?
We involve children in creative music composition assisted by audio and midi music technology. The children will generate and record sounds which can then be manipulated and controlled, giving children freedom to make decisions about their musical composition.

Examples of work done so far:

  • Mood music for poetry / dramas
  • Creative composition based on songs and rounds
  • Making instruments – sampling sounds
  • Composition using cyclic patterns
  • Songwriting

It may be possible for us to come in to school to record work to extend in sessions in the media room. We can also offer help with creating backing tracks and music to support assemblies and performances.
